Our Story
As we embark on this exciting transition into our new identity as Together for Youth, we’re not just changing our name; we’re evolving our mission and vision to better reflect our commitment to the youth and families in the communities we serve.
Over the years, Berkshire Farm Center has established itself as a cornerstone of support, providing vital programs and services to uplift and empower those in need. Now, as Together for Youth, we’re taking that legacy forward with renewed energy and purpose, embracing a fresh perspective that underscores the unity and collaboration at the heart of our work.
With our new name and branding, we’re signaling a shift towards a more inclusive and unified approach to serving our communities. Together for Youth embodies the spirit of partnership and collective action, highlighting our belief in the power of collaboration to drive positive change.
As we continue to support youth and families in navigating life’s challenges, our new identity serves as a beacon of hope and solidarity, uniting us all under a common mission to foster resilience, growth, and opportunity for every individual we serve. This success is made possible by the collective effort of partners, foster parents, donors, volunteers, and committed staff.
We Keep Evolving
As Berkshire evolved, so did our name, reflecting our commitment to serving all youth. From its origins as Burnham Industrial Farm to its current form as Berkshire Farm Center and Services for Youth, Together for Youth now remains dedicated to its mission.
More than 135 years of changing lives, creating futures!
More than 135 years ago, Frederick and Catharine Burnham founded Berkshire Farm Center to support troubled youth. They envisioned a refuge for “wayward boys” on a farm in Canaan, New York, believing in the power of a nurturing environment and hard work to transform lives. Their dedication laid the foundation for Berkshire Farm Center and Services for Youth, a leading agency in New York State.
Over the years, Berkshire expanded its reach and services, adapting to meet changing needs. Economic shifts ended farming activities but didn’t deter Berkshire’s focus on empowering youth and families.
Today, we offer a wide range of programs across 55 counties, addressing issues like violence and trauma.
